Africa Poem by Mxolisi Makhubu

Africa

U stand in awe at the shore of despair gazing at the distant horizon,
All u see is cannibalism, hatred, malice, slander, murder, greed and
Hunger for power, the sun I dusking on u and the help is at bay.
Your neighbors look at u with an eye of an eagle.
Wondering when will your battle come to an end.

Waves of terror and fear are ravaging your soul and
Darkness has overwhelmed u, sorrow follow u in every direction
And death boast over u, and it prepares its sting for u.
But your courage and bravery have gone forth like a hunter.
Preparing yourself for the tragedy that lies ahead.

Even some of your neighbors has cast stones on you.
And some of them offer to help because they look to steal from u.
Because of your rich resources, I know that one day u will roar,
And u will never eat grass no matter the economy of your jungle.
It is not pride, but it’s who u are.

Stay put sing your songs of hope, deliverance and liberty.
Surely u will never lie dormant forever,
Time has come that u bring forth your brightness, and chase away
Darkness and rejoice that sorrow may find no place anymore within u.
Rise AFRICA rise from your sleep, awake from your slumber.
A silver lining is seen from your rainbow,
Shine AFRICA shine
