Aids Poem by Nangamso Ndikandika

Aids

God If not now, then when
The promises of a better life
The promises you made of prosperity
Who gets to be happy and does not?
Who finds love so young and who doesn’t?
Who gets infected with the killer disease and who doesn’t?
Who lives for long and who doesn’t?

A child so young is killed and rapped
Infected and affected by the killer disease
That dances and lives in her blood
Rejoicing for it has received a new soul

Aids can not be erased or washed out
Uninvited it sits and becomes a part of your life
Aids will erase the beauty of love
It leaves you scorned and embarrassed

If you’re infected the word will notice
As its traces and face will cover yours
Creating a new identity and picture of you

Man be strong and brave
This social stigma, let statistics be a liar
When it declares millions will die
Let millions be born HIV negative and full of life.
