All My Friends Are A Prison Poem by Raj Dronamraju

All My Friends Are A Prison

Had a chance but failed to act upon it
Now tiger drawbridge greets every attempt to move on
Tiger drawbridge quick to pull up and leave you flat-footed
With the entourage of unrealized potential
Making claims on war whoops and envy

These are your friends
They represent you as a dirty simpleton
You without polish or knowledge
They bring forth a spirit-free version
They fail to support the changes experience cause

The friends are a prison
Who keep you locked up in a dull stream of repeated failures
What you can't do and let's recover from that with beer

Their setting is the land of no account
Where no one makes any attempt to explain why they could have been better
Your esteem is held under lock and key
The guards patrol themselves as well as the prisoners
I can't have you succeeding where I did not
