Allergy Poem by George Hunter

Allergy

There was a youmg lady named Rox
Who couldn't eat bagels and lox.
And eating raw fish
Not her favorite dish
It gave her the piscatorial pox.

Just thought that this morn
You I'd have to warn.
It was very devil-ish
My Ma was scared by a fish
On the very day I was born.

Can't eat oysters or shrimp
Though it makes me a wimp.
I'd like to try it
But gotta watch my diet
Or I'll swell up like a blimp.

Too bad I'm so allergic
Hate to be so dramaturgic.
People get their kicks
From various tricks.
Guess I'll have to try something lysergic.

But drugs I'll have to skip
Because I don't want a bad trip.
I'll leave that to the junkies
And the rest of the flunkies
And stay on the narrow strip.

‘Cause I don't have to eat fishes.
I'll just eat other dishes.
There's plenty else to eat
Just have to stick to the meat
And drown my other wishes.

Have a glass of fine wine
Whenever I choose to dine.
Or maybe a beer
To bring me good cheer
When you fill up my stein.
