Almost Defrauded Poem by Mary Angela Douglas

Almost Defrauded

preparing for the phantom inspections

I stayed completely out of the fray

dear Lord I whispered

can't we treat this

like any ordinary day

any ordinary day you come to save me

from the circus tricks of the world

any day my head is spinning

from the fables I have heard

any day you'll send the angels

writing it down in a golden book

how I almost was defrauded

by every line and sinker and hook.
