Almost Like A Love Affair Poem by Jane Quijano

Almost Like A Love Affair

I want to see the land that I love
One that is lined with unending brooks
And touched by the small fingers of pine;
I have to feel the caresses of your mud
Clinging to my feet with such covetous ardour.

You have been near it, yet not touching,
But you feel it from the depths of your heart.
You see, this land I thought was my repose
When my time has to come near its end
I will  come back to rest.

It has been here since the beginning
Tho' abandoned by my journey's plight
A life where my heart could not feel
The ecstacy of reaching the mountain peak
Or your warm embrace in a moonlit night.

Soulmates are we? My beautiful valley and me
You with your silence that speaks of rest;
When we touch, my bare feet on your heart -
I feel the throbbing of your plants yet ungrown
And the laboured breathing of the wind
Stops with kisses to last!
