Alone Poem by John Allen Richter

Alone

Calm struck a sound
It echoed through the hollows
and pierced the thickness of time.
It brought my heart to still
and found my very will
longing for you.

And the calm lives.
Though I do not.
Where would beauty lie in quiver
that the hawks wings might shiver
beneath the fluttering wind calm brings?
His devouring eyes searching the vale
to find a light so beautiful, so serene
as you.
And yet your step has trampled me
crushed me into dust
and my cold body hides from the hawk
amidst the settled ashes
of your absence.

I like this, especially the last five lines. A thought-provoking write.
