Always Remember Poem by Francis Duggan

I will always remember where my life's journey began
Where i grew from a boy into a man
Claraghatlea in Duhallow just west of Millstreet Town
Where old Clara Mountain forever looks down

On green Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra that are so old in time
That have been the inspiration of song, story and rhyme
Of long deceased writers who lived years ago
That their literary legacy may live forever well may be so

When people ask me where i come from i tell them from Millstreet
From the old rushy fields where the waterways meet
And where is this Millstreet to me they does say
I tell them in Duhallow from here far away

It was the yearn for travel that lured me far south
Of the fields of the badger and waterways of the brown trout
To the home of emu, echidna, koala and gray kangaroo
And the big dark brown parrot yellow tailed black cockatoo

Yet on my flights of fancy i hear a male chaffinch sing
In a leafy grove in the prime of the Spring
When the hawthorns are cloaked in their blooms of white to gray
And the old fields are wearing their wildflowers ofMay.
