Amongst The Dunes Poem by James Walter Orr

Amongst The Dunes

Rating: 5.0

Why turn your back, my sweetest Rose,
Whenever I come near?
'You took my love, you stole my life,
You filled my heart with fear.'

What do you fear, my precious one?
What do you fear from me?
'You'll go and leave me here alone,
No home nor family.'

Rose girl, did you go home last night?
That's what I'd like to know.
'I made my bed amongst the dunes,
Where cold sea breezes blow.'

'The coldest wind I ever felt,
I had for company.
The longest night I ever passed,
Seemed like eternity.'

Sweet Rose, just come away with me.
My windows can't have bars.
Our lamp can be the silvery moon,
Our blanket made of stars.

'I carry now another life,
From talk of stars and moons.
My babe and I will stay and die,
Out here amongst the dunes.'
