Amphan: Nature's Wrath

Human beings, including every other creature
Some of whom seem super powerful, super strong,
Often find, to the hands of mother Nature
Mere toys, so frail, so feeble to play along.

Cyclone Amphan, category five moving past
India, affecting parts of Orissa and West Bengal,
Great damages it has done all-over, in its path
Creating havoc, approaching from the Bay of Bengal.

20th May 2020, turned out to be a black day
Ravaged towns and cities, as the storm grew steadily,
People from low lying areas shifted for a safe stay
Still millions of people, rich and poor, impacted terribly.

Kolkata, the City of Joy, saw devastation everywhere
Buildings collapsed, trees and poles uprooted,
Roads blocked and flooded in heavy shower
Cars were under water; all the hustle and bustle muted.

Destruction to life and property horrible
With heavy downpour and the storm surging,
Even after years, the damages will be visible
"Why was it us? ", the survivors urging.

For the daily wagers, their lives totally shattered
No shelter, food, electricity or drinking water,
Shops in the market broken, garbage all scattered
On the streets of Kolkata, what remains thereafter.

Nature showers divine blessings, so to Her we owe
Stop exploiting and treating with contempt,
It is for you to choose, want in Her, a friend or foe
Never underestimate Her grandiose and strength.
