An Addiction Poem by Randy McClave

An Addiction

Yes I am an alcoholic
It is sad but true,
I have already been to rehab
So, what else do you want me to do.
Yes, I drink to access
You have said that many times before,
So, before you begin your preaching
Another beer I need to pour.
You say that I am never sober
So, then I am always drunk,
I always have a drink in my hand
From sobriety I did flunk.
Yes I have an enslavement
And yes it is to alcohol,
I won't deny it, I will admit it
As I stand behind the 8 ball.
You watch me when you smoke
Mom watches me when she takes her snack,
Sis spies on me when she leaves the stores
And dad judges while drinking pop from a 12 pack.
I am so tired of everyone's complaining
And also the condemning friction,
But, please remember this
I am not the only one with an addiction.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have a friend and she is an alcoholic, she has been to reahab, dried out, the works, but she still drinks, and she says her family keeps harassing her. The family members that can't stop snacking, smoking (legal and illegally) , judging etc, etc and I have always said and believed (my departed brothers were addicted to drugs and drink) that there is more than one addiction in this world.
