The pages have come loose from the binding
Letter tabs are worn and curled from seeking
Names and phone numbers are here for finding
A location for those to whom I am speaking
The names that appear are a rare selection
Acquainted with me in a very specific way
Some are related genetically or by affection
Others provide a service for which I pay
Chinese restaurants that have carry out
Phone numbers for schools where children learn
Lawyers and doctors for when I have doubts
An assortment from A to Z for every concern
Perhaps it is time to discard the outdated guide
Many of the address no longer are accurate
Unfortunately many dear friends have died
Memories cloud my vision as I procrastinate
Gently realigning each leaf in proper order
Recollections written over the years confirm
It is possible that I have a retaining disorder
A refusal to release memories that reaffirm
