An Ageing Beauty Poem by Francis Duggan

An Ageing Beauty

She was quite a beauty when young years ago
But time that ages most things has become her foe
She is not a mother nor to any man a partner or wife
Her deceased female lover was the great love of her life
In her long life her saddest ever day
Was two decades ago when her lover passed away
In her early eighties living on her own
And her happy memories of a true love she has known
With wavy gray hair to her shoulders she is ageing with grace
And for her age she has a slim figure and a beautiful face
The love of her life in the cemetery lay
And in her will her wish is to join her one day
She never was to any man a partner or wife
The woman she loved was the love of her life.
