An Autumn Leaf In Time Poem by Jennifer. R. Hutchison

An Autumn Leaf In Time

Autumn has come
And I
Am floating subtly downward -
Allowing the Gravity of
Reality
To effervescently,
Gently
Lower me
Like an autumn leaf -
Released from the tree of security and serenity.

I am wilting and dying,
Fearing that there is no safer haven
Than from where I've come.

Escaping the sun light in screams,
In cries.
Denying this fate -
Trying to fly upward...
But failing.
Every time I gain the courage
A wind pushes me harder;
Lower...
Over and over and over
Again.

I am afraid.

The wind enters my soul -
It rushes like a hurricane
And I panic!

When I look around
I am the only one sailing to the ground.
The ground is close now...
So close... now...
