An Elegy To 2017 Poem by Frank Adie

An Elegy To 2017

Five days from today,
We are entering a new year;
31st December is your date of expiry,
And you will forever vanish into history.

Generations to come will mention you,
Even those that didn't live through you;
You may have been a great year in the lives of many,
But the "change" you brought to many is an irony

Your parting gift of fuel scarcity, is scurrilous,
We didn't expect you would be this treacherous,
Like every parting, we say farewell,
You may proceed to take your place in hell.

We would remember you for so much,
Especially for the economic crunch;
You have done your best 2017,
You can now give way to 2018.
