An Inanimate Object Animates Poem by Doris Cornago

An Inanimate Object Animates

Layer upon layer of memories in my mobile
Choosing what to keep or discard
A memory caught up with me
Timespan, unspinning
spools on my mind
the meanings
Discarding
photos
in
huge
albums
Mark chapters
in volumes of life
Nonsensical, irrational
A purple bear remains in
display, but the one who gave
no longer there, still warm when
touched, an inanimate object animates
Memories, wanting to be recovered, sealed

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My mobile is malfunctioning due to photos stored in its memory. I went through these photos, from oldest to newest, choosing which ones are no longer irrelevant/nonsensical to free the mobile's memory, but in the process, I had unspun some sealed memories in my mind. Have you ever kept some memories/photos/mementos in a safe-box, not wanting to look at them and biding for a 'better time'? Does the better time come or do we need to bring that time upon ourselves?
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Doris Cornago 13 August 2017

The bright eyes were wet with tears in recalling, only the purple bear knows this. A photo reflects loneliness but the message is mistaken for something else. What you see is your own interpretation or what you choose to see in anyone.
