An Old Dog's Tongue Poem by RIC BASTASA

An Old Dog's Tongue

an old dog
hot having used his tongue
when it was yet
a puppy
is here under nobody's watch
trying to compensate
for its loss
and here it is
licking the foot of an
old tree
in a town which had grown
into a city
flowering neon lights at
night
and feeling nothing.
