An Old Man Should Try To Be Happy Poem by Shalom Freedman

An Old Man Should Try To Be Happy

AN OLD MAN SHOULD TRY TO BE HAPPY

An old man should try to be happy
He should stop the negative thoughts
He should take pleasure in every pleasure
An old man should be grateful
For still being alive
And still being able to do
Whatever he is able to do
He should look back at his life
And smile at all the family and friends he has had
And all the moments of love he knew
And feel much of it to be a blessing
He should look at his life now
As if it’s a bonus-gravy
He has done the work and the job
And whatever he gets now
Its extra
He should be happy
And not think too much
About what must come
And what he will have to go through
And how it will end
For now he should be happy for now
And think that ‘now’ will last forever
And he can go on being a happy old man
For neverending time- to -come.
