Angel At My Side Poem by Brendan Duffy

Angel At My Side

Angel at my side
Sleeps so calm and gentle
Her soft breathing
Flickers the nearby candle

I watch her as she sleeps
Lovingly at her tender face
Trying not to be a creep
But in awe of her beauty and grace

The covers slides off the cusp of her shoulder
I pull it back up slowly
Trying not to wake her
But secretly I really want to

She lets out a soft sigh
It breaks the forever silence of the dark
Good or bad dream or nigh
Just glad that it wasn't a bark

I move closer beside her to feel her warmth
Wrap one arm around her and hold her tight
Feeling the moment before its gone
Until I succumb to the wishes of the night

I wake to the feel of your body moving in the bed
Look up to find you smiling above me
I ask 'Are you cold? Do you want a cuddle instead? '
She replies 'No hun, not cold' and pauses secretly

I see a familiar twinkle in her eye
A truthful smile forming on the way
I know what she's thinking and I agree
In your eyes I'd like to stay
