Animal Right (A Fighting Cock Lost Fighting Spirit.) - Poem by U Win Kyi

I am a fierce fighting cock.
Every opponent I did knock.
They were beaten in early bout,
cos I was so strong and stout.
I was nursing the injuries sustained in last fight,
when my victory brought my owner not only a great delight,
but also a big pride,
celebrating the triumph party,
with the grand prize money.
The party went very wild and rowdy,
as my body riddled with spur-pierced wound....almost deadly.

After several weeks, I recovered fully to my prime condition,
crowing strong and my wings....forcefully flapping.
Challenging ' any time, any place, but of stake it must be a big amount.'
for a fight as my owner announces.
Now I am strutting, surrounded by a pack of hens,
and praised by the small chickens.

Last week, a favourite cock from this camp lost,
so it was sent to the cooking pot.
The stake was so high,
the loss made the owner breath in despair, a long, deep sigh.
Now, of money he is in great urgent need,
his friend's advice not to rush, he doesn't heed.
Absolutely ignoring that preparation time is too short,
Against me...too great the odds.
The challenger is bigger, heavier, taller and more experienced,
so winning this fight becomes a 50-50 chance.
It is like David and Goliath,
but God was with David in that unequal killing match.
I have my owner as a crazy nut,
who doesn't have any guts.
Once he got into a heated argument,
for a bias, unfair judgement.
The other party challenged him for bare-knuckled fight,
he backed off and ran away in a fright.

So my next Sunday fight will be a matter of 'live or death'
My owner will gamble all he has.
If I win, he will keep me for further match,
until I become crippled or dead.
If I lose, I will be no more champion,
but will be cooked with chilli and onion,
on a red-hot flame,
for putting on him a big shame.

I know I was born to fight,
like a knight,
for a cause of 'just.'
not for my owner....a selfish nut.
So I decide,
the fight will be my suicide,
I plan to run away in the middle of fight, from the arena in a flight,
thus teaching my owner a life lesson,
the animal cruelty and greed which he needs to abandon.
