Anne Frank Speaks From The Grave To Her Beloved Poem by Dennis Ryan

Anne Frank Speaks From The Grave To Her Beloved

Thursday afternoon, August 11,2016; revised Friday evening, August 19,2016

"I hope I will be able to confide everything in you,
as I have never been able to confide in anyone..."
- English translation of the opening sentence of the Definitive Edition of Diary of a Young Girl

I would have confided everything in you.
You would have become my greatest comfort.
We would have married, and had children.
I would not have gone silent as women tend
to do.No, not that tyranny!I sensed all this,
wrote it down, a girl growing up, keeping a diary.
I hid myself behind the kitchen door, cried softly,
waited for mother to comfort me, but nothing came
of it—she seemingly had no time to spare.Constantly
busy, rattling the pots and pans, she cooked constantly—
her yelling!I was aware, witnessedhow it played out.
I don't blame her—but would never have become like her.
