Another Dawn Shall Break Poem by Francis Kokutse

Another Dawn Shall Break

It has not only been all dark and fearsome,
This past night.
I had spent the hours tossing like a
log that has been left on the sea,
and sleep refused to make friends with me.

From the beyond, deep in my mind
l hear the howling of those who
have deprived me of a well earned sleep;
From those whose debt l cannot repay,
to the worrisome thoughts that life
has become a journey without end,
but it was also the barking of the thought
that the cock would crow again that heightened
my fear of the new dawn.

Yes, a new dawn with new worries
is coming to meet me and add
to the debts of the yesterday.

I know the stomach is not sealed,
and the tears of the hungry children
would add to the woes of my
already broken dreams of a better
tomorrow that l have long forgotten
would ever come.
