Anticipation Poem by Patrick Villareal

Anticipation

Listening to the accelerated thumps within my chest, I lie and wait
Looking back and forth as time fades away, I am in constant debate
Deciding whether I should sieze the moment and take it for my own
Or whether to let it slip away and leave this obligation alone
As the night goes on the crowd around me talks their worries aside
While I sit in silence with my fear plucking away at my resolve on the inside
Hiding in the masses I look upward as the giant clock ceases to move
Still having trouble coming to a decision that I can yet approve
The multitude begins to disperse, the chains of fear release my mind
Steadily walking down the bemired steps, I travel towards my fate blind

I like the style of this poem. I'm not entirely sure the subject, but it sounds like the person is contemplating suicide. If so, I think this accurately describes the thoughts of a suicidal person.
