Are You Ever Lonely? Poem by Edwina Reizer

Are You Ever Lonely?

Are you ever lonesome and don't know why?
Are you ever lonesome just like I?
A room full of people all at my side
and still the loneliness is unidentified.
Where does it come from?
Why is it here?
I thought we were only lonely
when no one is near.

I think the loneliness comes from before,
from a time in our past when we were sure
that what it is we do would never be through.
It would always be alive and part of you.
Why couldn't it stay?
Why isn't it here?
'Cause times are a changing.
That's why my dear.

But all that loneliness makes you reflect
and brings you back to how you connect
with what made you happy,
what made you, you.
All of the things that you could do.
And this is why you're lonely sometime.
'Cause when you are younger
you are still in your prime.
But, eventually the time for loneliness
will be your sign
for reflection.
