Are You Home To Stay Forever Dad? Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Are You Home To Stay Forever Dad?

“Are you home to stay forever Dad”
Are you here to stay for good?
You know it’s what we prayed each night for,
And were always trusting that you would! ”

That father was home from battle.
The Lord kept him alive just for this day.
But how many father’s out there,
Just selfishly chose to run away?

Perhaps he’s a long haul trucker,
Who is away from home for weeks.
When he gets home he’s a stranger.
On egg shells everyone must creep.

Maybe the mommy and the daddy
Simply can not get along!
When the yelling and the screaming stop,
Many times you have a broken home!

Sure, adults can have deep feelings.
Men and women both know how to cry.
But what are we teaching the children,
Who cower in a corner, standing by?

Look into the eyes of your sweet children.
In their depths you’ll find what they can’t say.
“Daddy if you’re thinking of leaving,
Can’t you make us your reason, to stay? ”

If they are the only reason
That you can find to stay,
Then Daddy’s that is just enough
To never leave, so Stay!

“Are you home to stay forever Dad”
Please say you’re here for good?
You know it’s what we prayed each night for,
And were always trusting that you would! ”
