Arid Lands Poem by Andrew Whittaker

Arid Lands

Take up the mantle, face up to yourself
It’s time to let go of the inner child
And let your children know childish ways

There’s no-one now to fall back on
It’s just you, only you, merely you
But you’re not alone
The mantle of your past is always bright
to shine the way

Just look to the light for guidance, don’t turn away
For if you look at the light it will shine bright
and show the way so clearly
But to squint and turn away will render her gone
And render you helpless and lost
