When Darkness Descends Poem by Andrew Whittaker

When Darkness Descends

Rating: 5.0

When darkness descends like a cloak in the night,
Casting shadow on day and you can no longer fight.
When the torch of reason and direction are lost,
and you’re fumbling around in the dark.

When love is missing and you question your reason, your sanity,
wondering if love was ever found.
When your reason for life itself is staring you in the face,
challenging reality and taunting you to face the challenge head-on.

When despair tears at your soul but your heart holds out for more,
sensing love to be found elsewhere, in heaven or in hell,
or in the purgatory of this existence.
When the knife sticks in so deep it no longer hurts,
and numbness stabs at your heart.

When Angels around you are screaming for you to listen to their torment,
and you cannot comfort them.
If you understood all this, you would be God,
But feeling all this is a mere, mortal man.
