Arise! Poem by David Lovell

Arise!

Over the years in silent sadness I watch
As dream after dream dies, some slowly, some so quickly
Inside, I die with them; we are one
Sometimes new replaces old, it matters not, all of them die

And so now we part, you and I
You go your way, I must go mine
Many have said goodbye, few stay while they go, while I go
I wish our ways were the same, it hurts, this amputation of the heart

I tell myself this is life
Be not bitter that all ends
Be thankful that all did begin

Bury it all in despondent mourning,
Say farewell to all you once hoped
I have no dream, hope has failed, creation stalled.
Denial! , ignore the ones alive;
Turn a deaf ear to the scratching within the coffin.

I see where the path leads
Dreams I never knew I had,
Always there, can never die.

Recognition gives hope to that which is weak,
That not dead, but buried alive.
The ground trembles, the stone is rolled away.
Mortal and eternal together and apart
In one body rise now.

O Death, where is thy sting?
Thou art impotent once denied after being overcome.
Now I seek only that which will live;
I’ll raise not a sacrifice to Death, and to his hunger give.
