Strange Foreboding Poem by David Lovell

Strange Foreboding

Lost in a dark maze
Suddenly I see myself
I am grieved, I do not know why
But I know that the time draws near
I am no longer lost, I have arrived at last
As I pass by, why this sense of familiarity?
Dismissed quickly, enjoy the carefree fun
My eyes lift and look across the fire
Connection that brings great joy
Nothing may go wrong for what I have found
I move forward to that which I am drawn to
Without warning I am stricken
I halt
Joy to come so close to what I desire
Grief to know it cannot be mine
The smoke I once hated is now comfort
It hides my desolation so that none may know
Back through the darkness I go
Suddenly, I am there
I am grieved and now I know why
The time has come, it is here now
