Aristotle's Bottle

In a dig in his dictionary
Doug unearthed an aryballos,
an ancient Greek globular oil-flask with a neck.

For ease of picking up and pouring
while the other hand is otherwise engaged,
the neck is hand-width long.

The ballos part of the word is self-explanatory;
ary might mean hollow, hand, hand-width or neck,
who knows?

or come from Greek arytaina meaning cup,
or, I propose, from aris,
clearly meaning arse,

but which, expanded into Aristotle,
is rhyming slang for bottle.
