As Lonely As A Cloud! ! ! Poem by Shybu Khan

Its leaves my heart empty and hollow

But it’s still something I cannot yet express

Why I feel this yearning for greater meaning?

And try as I might I’m unable to suppress.


Although surrounded by people I still search

For that someone to call a true friend

Soon I realized it’s not at all easy

And my time and patience soon reached an end.


This feeling slowly started to overcome

For once I had felt invincible and much too proud

Today I resemble a hill under a dark shadow

And feel as lonely as a distant cloud.


It seemed at first I knew what I wanted

Its fame, success and money I craved

Soon it left me shallow and distant

All I want now is get back from where I strayed


If only I listened to what my friends predicted

This road leads where no happiness treads

All it gives you are promises wrapped in despair

Today I wish for redemption from my sorry trend.


Now I realize how wrong I was

Mistook those who were really close

And surround myself with mere pretenders

Until the veil lifted and realization rose.


Let me tell you what I’ve learned

Not to take my friends for granted

But to treat them as a true blessing

Otherwise like me you’ll be soon found wanted.


This feeling only grows the more we avoid it

Until we decide to set things right

But is important to act before it’s too late

Or soon it’ll prove beyond help, try as you might.


Today I want to go back

To the friend I thought; long lost

Wish me luck n give me strength

Here’s for friendship, let’s raise a toast! ! ! !
