As Long As The Gift Of Memory Poem by Francis Duggan

As Long As The Gift Of Memory

As long as the gift of memory we retain
Old memories from long gone years with us remain
Of the old friends we have not seen for many a day
In anti ageing creams and hair dyes some of them cover their gray
In once familiar streets you often walked up and down
You would feel a stranger now in your hometown
Old friends of the past apart from you do grow
And where you once knew many few now you would know
But when you visualize things have not changed at all
With your young mates in the town park you chase the football
The nesting birds sing in the warmth of the Spring
The great gift of youth is a wonderful thing
As long as the gift of memory we retain
We can visualize of what once was again.
