As You Hold Back Your Thoughts Poem by Doris Cornago

As You Hold Back Your Thoughts

Rating: 5.0

Tell me where the way lies
Where to go on when the
Light flickers and dies
How much do we
Hold back and
How much
Do we
Give
To
Ensure
Goals are
Still achieved
Saw the shoes
On the doorstep
But wet tears stain
The pillow on my head
You've kept your thoughts
From me, you're gone forever

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The lack of communication between couples drive a wedge between them although they live in the same house, share the same table for meals, share the same room and share the same bed. As a woman, I thrive with daily conversation with another human, most especially if that person is my husband. Not to be talked to is worst than being a dog in the house who at least gets a pat on the head. This woman is so unlike me as she tolerates this indifference of her spouse and just cried on her pillow due to his inattentiveness. Or she must have put up a wall of silence between her and her spouse for a possible infidelity. What are some of the reasons a man will refuse to talk with his wife? I think a cold treatment is the saddest situation between a couple, for whatever reason.
