You wouldn't know to look at him, but
Asa Perks could fly
It wasn't even very hard
He only had to try
He knew the trick from studying
Old books on human flight
He needed just to lift both feet
Then swim towards the light
Once in the air, he'd find that he
Could pitch and wheel and yaw
The soft mist holding him aloft
In spite of Newton's law
Then fluttering and floating
He would stir the sparkling air
And save the morning's razor chill
He wouldn't have a care
The startled creatures of the sky
Would flit away and hide
And he would gently summon them
To join him on his ride
As he displaced the atmosphere
Those left upon the ground
Would gape in clueless wonder
As he soared and jinked around
And all those who had told him
That he hadn't any worth
Would, bitter, swallow back their words
As THEY stayed on the earth
You wouldn't know to look at him, but
Asa Perks could fly
He felt no need to prove it 'cos
He only had to try
