Ashlee Poem by Lindsay King

Ashlee

for every girl who throws up in the toilet
and every one who can't look in the mirror
do you feel a tinge of regret?
for every word you used to say
and everything you said you stood for
do you ever look back?
claiming you lived in the shadow
of a carbon copy of what you are now
said you were different
but you're lost in the blur
i guess money talks a lot louder than convictions
do you know what it takes to be individual?
do you know what it means to have an idol
do you know how pivotal
these things are
when you turn on us like this
i thought you were strong
you fell down and got up
gonna prove them all wrong
but i guess you're just one of them
one of the pretty faces
lost in the sea
of anorexics and coke addicts
forced on us by MTV
i thought you were different
with black hair and a cute nose
possibly a godsend
but instead you bleached it out
and cut it off
the curse of anorexia
i think your name is really jessica
