Asking For A Friend Poem by Montaha Gasir

Asking For A Friend

Tell me something,
I'm greatly needing.
What do you do,
When your heart is bleeding?

What do you do,
When it feels like a dagger,
Has been stabbed in your heart,
Making it shatter?

It's not me who's bleeding.
I don't mean to be misleading.

I'm asking for a friend,
A distant relative.
I'm recounting their story,
A painful narrative.

How do you deal,
With a pain so piercing,
Move on in life,
Without even wincing?

How do you play,
Pretend and smile,
Like nothing happened,
While choking on bile?

It's not me who's bleeding.
I am not misleading.

I'm asking for a friend,
A distant relative.
I'm recounting the story,
A painful narrative.
