At Night, I.. Poem by Windsor Guadalupe Jr

At Night, I..

Rating: 5.0

At night, I

Tether one lash to your eye,

So that when the aurora of day comes,

There’s be one more reason to vie

For another night where we melt like

The ice in the arctics unduly with liquid –

Where I drown in my dreams, like a submerged moth

Of marred flight and height

-

At night, I

Disembowel the remains of this present

Where I somewhat waltz across a burning room

Of billowing torch fires and spiraling summers

Until one autumn, I would be fully alive

In the bloom of your hands, your lips,

Your neck and how sweet the lines of it were,

And how I always fall asleep to the symphony

Of the sirens from a land where the allure – the cadence

Is your own, petrifying voice

-

At night, I

Take refuge underneath a paper,

And waddle in gait whilst I carry a pen

Shifting weights from side of the worlds

And muster force to write about your smile of protruding teeth,

Your hair which stops growth at the cynosure of your back,

Your flushed emerald-like skin once white, now tan in hue

For the Sun has embraced your vivid and lithe structures

With a heat that can almost assume the warmth

Of my cumbersome body upon yours

-

At night, I

Find you beside my bed,

With your head pressing upon my frail arm,

As you impede the gushing of blood on my arm,

You give life to another dead spark in mine eyes

That seek rejuvenation – you are the water I drink,

The food I consume, you are the air that I come to breathe

And when I exhale, I lose a portion of you,

No matter how I flail my hands to reach you

You fade into white light.

-

At night, I

Break into a peal of laughter and divinity

Whenever I dream about you, for you seem so lucid –

You are as tangible as the sand’s coarse palms

You are as sharp as the dagger’s crude luster

But then, my musing, I grimace when I wake up

For everything seems to fade in the selfishness of the jealous morning,

For the mornings never bring so much mirth in me – not even a gist

And so, at night, I own you,

And by day, I do not.
