At The End Of The Road/There Is Deeper Loneliness Poem by Shalom Freedman

At The End Of The Road/There Is Deeper Loneliness

AT THE END OF THE ROAD/ THERE IS DEEPER LONELINESS

At the end of the road
There is deeper Loneliness
More terrible Pain
Humiliation
Failure Again.

At the end of the road
There is the disappointing
Of those one loves
And the frantic struggle
To survive and remain sane.

At the end of the road
It will be a long time, if ever
If there is ever to be
New hope again.

At the end of the road
There is deeper loneliness
And unending darkness
And fear and sorrow and self- hate

At the end of the road
Again.
