Voici le champ ou la bataille n'est pas arrivee,
ou le soldat inconnu ne mourut pas.
Voici le champ ou les tiges de l'herbe joignerent les mains,
ou aucun monument ne se trouve,
et la seule chose heroique c'est le ciel.

Des oiseaux volent ici sans bruit,
en depliant leurs ailes en plein air.
Personne ne tua-ou fut tue-sur ce champ
consacre par manque d'attention et d'un air si insipide
qu'on le celebre en oubliant son nom.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

I agree with the anti-war theme, and the pacifist subtext. The poem is witty
and it satirizes putting up monuments to remember war, instead of forgetting war and concentrating on peace, the future, not the past. My country is still has a war mentality in many ways.
