Auguries Of Innocence Poem by Cherylyn Vardi

Auguries Of Innocence

Rating: 4.8

Man is an island of thought and emotion
Floating purposefully on aimless seas
Confusion and conflict float on his waters
Bleeding and aching debris

William Blake offered lighthouse vision
To the mind of the intellectually blind
Perpetuating perils of paradox
To a universe of Newtonian design

To see the world in a grain of sand
To smell paradise after a shower
Infinity breathing through the lungs of a wave
Eternity residing in the heart of a flower

Beauty exists in the ordinary
In the frescoes and sculptures of life
In the struggle of Man to create himself
Not in polaroid perfect delight

Ignorant pillar of clay is he
Believing in heaven ever after
Frivolously ignoring the divinity of Day
Forfeiting Elysian encounters

Man walks erect with eyes wide open
Into the Dark Ages of technical time
Praying to pixelled Providence
His happiness industrially designed
