Australia Inferno Poem by U Win Kyi

Australia Inferno

Australia's bushfire,
the worst ever,
in 110 years,
the area burnt was 815,000 acres,
killing about 200 people,
and many many animals,
sending 81 burn patients to hospital,
in a night of terror.

Raging flames as high as 4 storey building,
scorching, searing and sizzling.
Engulfing everything on its path,
wild fire spreading so fast.
Dark dense smoke filled the sky,
the air so hot and dry.
Rolling ball of fire roared,
the temperature rapidly soared.

Some escaped by jumping into swimming pool or farm reservoir,
some died in the fleeing cars,
the bodies so charred.
Some died huddling together,
their bodies so smoldered.

Our sympathy poured out to victims of Kinglake,
no matter the disaster was God-made, man-made or nature-made.
Their hope was dashed,
as their homes turned into ash.
Sorrow and grief filled our hearts,
no less than that of prime minister Kevin Rudd.

The Aussie fire fighters so brave and bold,
fighting the inferno,
burning with a glow,
deserved lots of 'Bravo.'
To the injured thirsty Koala,
they shared their bottled water.
