Back To Accusations Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Back To Accusations

There are times many come,
To ignore the same warnings.
And yet...
Seem as if addicted,
With a stubbornness.
A talent pursued.
Like a 'gift'.
Blessed to have and born with it.

Ultimately again,
And repeatedly to do.
Facing the familiarity,
On a path that ends their journey.
With no place to go.
But back to accusations made.
Done to do once again,
Ignoring the warnings.

"This time,
I am not going to be so stupid."

-What are you doing?
Putting that helmet on your head?
You didn't wear one before.-

"I know.
But this time,
I have come prepared.
I am being pro-active.
While you all,
Are beating your heads...
Against that brick wall.
I am not going to be...
Affected."

-I can understand that.
But...
What about the ritual? -

"What ritual? "

-The ritual of denial.
You know.
We bang our heads against the wall.
Then return,
Back to claim...
Of not knowing about warnings.
To blame and accuse others,
For not telling us about them.-

"That's too embarrassing.
People have become to think,
This to be...
Some kind of event.
And have begun to petition,
This to become a holiday."

-Really?
Hmmm...interesting!
I think you are on to something,
That could be celebrated nationally.-

"Huh? "

-Think of it.
If we all wore helmets.
To bang our heads against the same wall.
Call the media.
And no one will suspect us,
To be stupid.
But average people tired of warnings! -

"That's crazy! "

-Crazy?
We are not suggesting people,
Drink bleach.
Or...
Inject themselves with disinfectants!
That's crazy! -

"It all is! "
