Back To The Ussr, Or? Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Back To The Ussr, Or?

A leader's choice, a heavy hand,
Brought chaos to a neighbor's land.
A war begun, with pride and might,
Now casts a long and shadowed light.

Young lives are lost, a grievous toll,
Across the fields, beyond control.
Whole villages, a silent plea,
For sons and brothers, no longer free.

At home, the fear, a constant guest,
As drones descend, put to the test.
The fires burn, where oil once flowed,
A price for power, heavily owed.

Schools wait for funds, the sick delay,
As bombs and defenses claim the day.
The ships lie still, the ports grow cold,
A story of ambition, bravely told,
But with a cost, a bitter sting,
No future joy this war can bring.

They aimed to show, a mighty force,
But weaknesses took a different course.
The strength they sought, now starts to fade,
While others gather, unafraid.

He thought to win, to make it great,
But sealed a different, somber fate.
Fewer are strong, the wealth is less,
The world looks on with deep distress.

This path he chose, this war he made,
A legacy of hope betrayed.
And in the quiet, in the years,
He'll face the truth, and all his tears.
