Bald Mountain Poem by gershon hepner

Bald Mountain

Moussorgsky by a Russian muse was called
to write about a mountain that was bald;
Rimsky thought the work would be far better off
if orchestrated by a Korsakov.
It’s great that Rimsky thought it worth his while
to give the summit a more sassy style.
This isn’t of Moussourgsky works the hottest;
about it, like his name, he should be Modest.

Inspired by a performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s version of Moussorgsky’s “Night on a Blad Mountain, ” introduced by Alan Chapman before broadcasting it on KUSC.
