I've heard it said
that you have to fall in the water
ninety seven times
before you're a REAL boater.

Having done it only once
I must be two months old....

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Actually I AM a real boater. I can get down into my engine 'ole and do my own repairs, change a water pump, steer and control my boat through locks and on tidal waterways. And I've still only fallen in once! On the swollen River Severn, but that's another story....
