Bar Dancer, They Said... Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Bar Dancer, They Said...

Bar dancer,
They said it the world was yours,
How to think of a world without you,
Without you,
No party without you
And you a dancer
So dreamy and fanciful
And luring
In a quite dazzling dress
Twinkling like a star,
Smiling like a red rose,
Hopping like a butterfly,
A sweetheart,
A theatre girl,
A darling
On whom the heart came it,
Came it
So often
Of the lookers-on,
A dream girl,
A dream girl of many,
A bar dancer,
A thrilling bar dancer,
To dance and entertain
Your job, they said,
But experience teaches us
This life not a cup of wine always,
Coloured wine to give, offer to
And to make one drink
And you to drink it yourself
To be a mood
And there came a stage
When intoxication started telling upon,
Youth and its lustre seemed to be on the wane
And in your bad days
None stood by you,
Left to your destitute
And not even there lay it anybody
To think about your condition,
Bread and butter
The same,
The same people
Wanting to pluck,
Pluck stars
To put into the braid of your hair,
Sweet-sweet red roses
To fragrance you,
The same,
The same people
Started parting ways from you
To get rid of you.
