Bars Poem by Cody Moore

Bars

Standing in my prison cell
The bars that hold me
I run my hands across them
I study the chipped paint
I can feel and see the layers
How many hands have touched
How many lives have seen
How many tears have wetted
I close my eyes and wish
I wish that they’d melt away
Freedom for me, NO!
Freedom is not beyond these bars
Freedom is within me
I must find my sky to soar
I must learn to open my wings
And let my mind free
Free to soar far beyond these bars
These bars that have seen so much
These bars that will see
The end of me.
