Battle Scars - Poem by Angela Marie Lara

I am ready now
to give up and die
to curl up in a ball
and weep and cry.

My strength is gone
I am so weak
You, with your anger
have reached a new peak.

Scared I wait,
for your words, your knife
to cut me open
and steal my life.

They pour out like blood
My feelings and heart
to stain the floor
My soul ripped apart.

My failure and defeat
are your badges of honor
How did it get this far
I silently wonder.

You have isolated me
I've no family for support
All by myself
Nowhere to turn for comfort.

You have won
Nothing more I can do
I have lost and I am dead
All courtesy of you.
