Be Poem by Emma Woods

Be

She looked at him
Her face said 'I love you'
He rose his head
His eyes said 'goodbye'
He spoke so softly
He wanted her sorrow
'I've packed my bags
I'm leaving tomorrow'
She begged and cried
He turned his back
'How did this come?
Why must you go? '
'Persuade me so
I might stay
But nothing I know
Would you think that way'
'Keep on dreaming
You said to me
And here I am
Setting you free'
'I want to dream
To dream with you'
She said 'I'd love
This not be true'
He walked away
He closed the door
She sobbed so hard
Knees met the floor
Next day he left
He left for good
Not a word he said
Not a word he could
He seemed so cold
So cold inside
'To be alone and old
Is how I shall die'
Not one 'goodbye'
No 'I love you'
Instead he left
She thought; 'how is this true? '
She remembered his touch
So warm and gentle
She remembered his kisses
Passionately tender
She opened her eyes
Wiped away the tears
She slowly stood
To confront her fear
Into the kitchen
And to the drawer
She took out the knife
She closed the door
Closing her eyes
She swallowed hard
Clutching the knife
Beside her heart
Her mind was set
Her head was clear
The knife met the floor
There was no more fear
Could she have done it?
Did she or not?
Would she have done it?
Is she now lost?
No - still alive
His arms flew around her
She held him so tight
Holding so tender
'I'm sorry' He said
'I reaalise now
I could never leave you
No matter what or how'
She smiled and forgot
Everything that was bad
They'd never lost
The love they once had
And over my shoulder
Every morning I see
The purity of their love
The wind carries to me
And now I'm burdened
With this heavy weight of love
I could never be sure
Why and who I should trust
But one thing I know
One thing's still true
I can't go on loving
Go on loving you
