Beating Rains Poem by Doreenda Nikoi Kotei

Beating Rains

It was still dawn,
With the moon shining brightly and softly in the sky.
I was wide awake on my bed
Thinking on how to plan my day.
I took a quick gaze at my daughter, sleeping soundly,
Then I hurried to get the day started.

Kneeling before God, I sought for mercy and grace.
Off I hurried to catch up with the early bus.
The beauty of the moon was suddenly covered by the stormy clouds.
The rains came rushing in, filling up the gutters.
But I had hope that the weather will clear up super fast!

The rains were thundering harder,
But I had to alight, just like everyone else.
Market women shouting and selling raincoats and umbrellas.
But the rains where just unbearable!
People hid from the heavy downpour,
Porters were carrying headpans as cover
Truck pushers conveying goods here and there.
Oh, what a painful sight to behold!

I was severely lashed by the rains.
Feeling cold, wet and uneasy for the day.
My clothes are still wet till this day!
Watching rains fall outside can be full of mixed feelings:
While others are happy for the rains, others are lamenting because either people or properties are getting destroyed!

Everyday brings a different flavour to your life!
The times and seasons only reminds us to be informed, prepared and get going no matter what.
Breathe, relax and be thankful for the rains anytime, anywhere.
They may be your best experience for a refreshing and fulfilling day.
Enjoy them!
